Oban Chocolate Factory!

Anyone who has worked in Oban at the Lorn and The Isles Hospital will know that one of the best places to spend some well earned time off is the Oban Chocolate Factory. Well it is now official! Travel website Goeuro has listed the top 10 chocolate shops in Europe on it's blog and there at the top of the list is the Oban Chocolate Factory!

"This delightful chocolate shop can be found nestled on the waterfront of the west coast town of Oban in Scotland. Originally founded by travelling couple Helen and Stewart, family and friends are at the heart of their business, and this delectable shop produces some of the most unique and delightful handmade chocolates. Located on the Esplanade, it is the perfect place to stop after a day along the waterfront, and here you will find delicious and unique creations such as an Irn Bru truffle (in true Scottish style), Cranachan Truffles and Horlicks Ganache as well as classics like Coffee Creams and Strawberry Creams. Each month the shop also features a special chocolate inspired coffee and waffle with November’s being a Mocha Shot and cherry and chocolate cream waffle. You can also watch the staff hard at work during the day as they handcraft every single one of their chocolate delights."

The Lorn and The Isles hospital along with the local GP Practices in Oban and Taynuilt forms one of the rotations in our rural track GP training program.  As a rural DGH Lorn and The Isles hospital offers a very broad range of experience highly appropriate to GP Training with close support from Consultant colleagues.  The hospital posts get very positive feedback from the GP Trainees who have worked there.  Read James Tullie's and Mike McIver's blogs about there experiences there.

As well as an excellent training environment Oban is an ideal base for those who enjoy the outdoors whether that be with the skiing, hillwalking and climbing on offer in Glencoe and the surrounding area or the water based pastimes of sailing and kayaking around Oban itself.  And if the outdoors is not your thing, well there is always the Chocolate Factory!
